Window Treatment
Most of you can relate to this one. You move into a place, throw up any old curtains as a “place holder” and 3 years later you are still staring at them.
Window shades (and area rugs) seem to be the most difficult home accessories to decide on because they can change the entire look of a room.
Slowly but surely I am replacing the $14 Target specials (aka dorm-style drapes) with more mature looking window treatments.
The dining room was the guinea pig – to give this room more of a library look after the bookshelves were installed, I ordered wide slat wood blinds with fabric ribbon from American Blinds.

I couldn’t believe what a difference they made (the built-ins didn’t hurt the cause either) and I really love how they look despite the fact they are another thing to dust.
Next up, the living room where we spend most of out time. This was more of a challenge
1. Blue-gray walls /Red couch
2. The need for privacy (one window faces the front entrance)
3. Our dog considers the “view” her daily entertainment so she has to be able to see out.
I debated on plantain shutters and drapes, but in the end I took the easy way out felt the same wood blinds we have in the dining room would also be nice in here.

The blinds definitely changed the lighting and mood of the room, but it looks more put together and deliberate. Every morning I just need to remember to pull up the shades enough so the dog can get her neighborhood watch on.

This can be cheaper than buying 3 window curtain panels and hardware. Just make sure you are 100% accurate with the measurements – they do not accept returns on custom orders.
