Master of the House
We have mastered the Master Bedroom with our redesign project!
The Headboard
Reclaimed wood with sconces from Lamp Goods. Light switches installed for easy access that includes USB connections. A thoughtful idea by my un-technical husband.
The Curtains
After many attempts to try and find the perfect window treatment (and trips back and forth to West Elm), I ended up buying fabric at a local shop. I cut the long pieces into panels and hung them with rod clips. We hung a double rod to get the layered effect.
Tip: hanging the curtain rod above the trim draws your eye up making the space seem bigger – great for those who don’t have high ceilings, but want to achieve that look.
The Bedside Shelves
An after thought, but a good one. We used some of the reclaimed lumber to make bedside shelves. Since the bed was repositioned closer to the door, having a bulky piece of furniture when you first walk in just wouldn’t cut it. These low profile shelves are a great replacement. Brackets only $4.00 each from Ikea!
Most of the improvements were low in cost due to repurposing (replacing dresser knobs, buying fabric, using reclaimed lumber etc.). The only thing we splurged on was the rug and it was worth it. It softened up the room while adding comfort and warmth to our cold morning toes. And Zoe likes it which is the most important thing.
Here is the bedroom in redesign progression:
Original layout with bed against back wall and under one of the windows.
Bed repositioned against wall. Now faces one window and created more space around the bed.
Although I loved the curtains above, they did not make the cut for this room.
I must say getting into bed is way more fun. It is the getting out of it part that poses a challenge.
Sweet dreams!
